Breakers brought the heat to the Breaking Canada Battle Arena at Jackalope Festival Mississauga

Jackalope Festival Mississauga was host to the 2024 National Breaking Championship last weekend.  We had rain, sun, more rain, blazing sun, some more rain, tornado warnings, and hot sticky humidity.  We also had breakers from all parts of the world participate in what will be the penultimate event leading up to the Paris Summer Games in a few short weeks…days actually.

Just days before, we were provided the opportunity to change locations from the Main Stage to the Amphitheatre which has its pros and cons.  We felt that perhaps it would be a good idea to have all the breakers in their own isolated battle coliseum arena away from conflicting sound from various other Jackalope programming that would get lost in the mix.  We do have many notes from this location to improve on for next time, which given some more lead time, we can certainly make it more enjoyable for fans, staff, and competitors.

We had to postpone the Bboy Laos workshop on Friday because of the rain, but people still showed up to support! France Bboy, Ceebri, who is one of our feature headliners of the weekend is seen here putting in work ahead of his main event battle against Alaskan breaker, Icey Ives on Sunday.

Next on the schedule were the Youth categories.  Representatives from from BC all the way to Nova Scotia were present in this truly national championship. BC and Quebec were standouts, seemingly out numbering even the number of local Ontario based breakers. We are proud of the coaches, parents, and mentors involved that put in the work to support their own talent and help guide them towards respectful and meaningful dance careers.

The Elite level Bboy and Bgirls ended the evening to a full crowd of festival onlookers.
